Sandia MSIPP/TEPP (S3) Soft Skills for Stem Workshop

June 4 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (MST)
Location: 1515 Eubank Blvd SE Albuquerque, NM

This workshop is a hands-on, interactive training day on soft skills for Sandia STEM students in summer internships. Al Duncan and Dr. Michelle Lee will lead the session and help you build communication, teamwork, and professional habits you can use right away during your internship.

What are soft skills?

Soft skills are the people and work habits that help you work well with others and do your job effectively. The Sandia Soft Skills for STEM (S3) workshop is based on Duncan’s five soft-skill clusters:

  • Communication
  • Decision making and problem solving
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Self-management and professionalism
  • Leadership, influence, and persuasion

Why are soft skills important?

Technical skills matter in STEM, but soft skills help you apply your technical work in a real workplace. They help you understand workplace culture, build strong working relationships, and grow your career. Strong soft skills can also improve your internship experience and make you more competitive to employers.
