The Accident Response Group provides technical expertise in assessing and safely resolving nuclear weapons accidents or "broken arrows." ARG brings together diverse experts from Sandia and other national labs, each with its own area of expertise. As the nuclear engineering lab, Sandia's focus is on the whole weapon.
Sandia hosts next generation of nuclear experts
Seven years ago, the NNSA established the Nuclear Science and Security Consortium, a collaboration among universities and national laboratories whose purpose is to train the next generation of nuclear security experts. Quantum research gets a boost at Sandia
DOE has awarded Sandia and Los Alamos national laboratories $8 million for quantum research — the study of the fundamental physics of all matter — at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies. The award will fund two three-year projects enabling scientists at the two labs to build advanced tools for nanotechnology research and development.
Second act: Sandia retirees band together to help small businesses with tech challenges
Technology Retirees Economic Catalysts, established in 2015 to connect Sandia retirees with small businesses that need technical and other expertise. TREC was launched when Technology Ventures Corp. asked Ron Moya, a retired mechanical engineer, to flesh out an idea he had to engage the Labs retiree community in economic development.
