Sandia scientist Jackie Chen was presented with an Achievement Award at WE18, the annual conference of the Society of Women Engineers, in Minneapolis. Jackie received the award for her impact on society and the engineering community.
Larry Luna elected American Society of Mechanical Engineers fellow
Sandia engineer Larry Luna has been elected a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for significant achievements during more than 30 years of service and leadership. ASME fellows constitute about 3.5 percent of the organization’s more than 95,000 members. Larry was specifically recognized “for his contributions to the national security of the United States,” according to ASME.
2018 HENAAC Luminary Mark Rodriguez
Sandia materials scientist Mark Rodriguez has been presented with the Luminary Award at this year's Great Minds in STEM Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference. Luminary honorees are professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics who initiate, collaborate and lead key programs and research and make significant contributions to the Hispanic technical community as leaders and role models.
Kenneth Armijo wins UNM Zia award
Sandia mechanical engineer Kenneth Armijo, who leads bilingual family science events by night and researches solar energy and assists small businesses by day, received the prestigious Zia Award from his alma mater, the University of New Mexico.
Scientists, leaders take home five awards honoring their work
Five female Sandia employees with significant accomplishments in science, engineering, management or diversity and inclusion were among the winners of two prestigious career achievement and leadership awards from the Women of Color STEM Conference and Women Worth Watching awards.
Jackie Chen elected fellow of the American Physical Society
Jackie Chen has been elected a fellow of the American Physical Society, an honor afforded each year to no more than one-half percent of society members. She was honored “for fundamental insights into turbulence-chemistry interactions revealed through massively parallel direct numerical simulations.”
Sandia Labs names first Jill Hruby Fellows
Mercedes Taylor and Chen Wang are Sandia’s first Jill Hruby Fellows. The honorees have each been awarded a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in technical leadership, comprising national security-relevant research with an executive mentor.
Six join ranks of Labs Fellows
Sandia has appointed six technically outstanding researchers to the extraordinary position of Fellow. The new appointees, from a wide variety of backgrounds, include the first female Sandia Fellow, Katherine Hansen Simonson, and the first Hispanic Sandia Fellow, Gil Herrera.

Jackie Chen has been recognized with an Achievement Award from the Society of Women Engineers for her impact on the society and the engineering community. The award is the highest honor given by the society and recognizes outstanding technical contributions of at least 20 years in engineering.
