The growing demand for cybersecurity professionals around the globe puts a premium on those in the industry and makes cybersecurity a critical skills area at Sandia. GET SCET and Tracer FIRE are two Sandia programs that have been put in place to help grow the number of talented individuals available to enter the cybersecurity pipeline.
Jackie Chen named DOE fellow
Jackie Chen, whose work on fundamental turbulence-chemistry interactions in combustion helped advance the design of automotive, gas turbine and jet engines, has been selected by DOE as a distinguished scientist fellow — one of only eight researchers in the nation to hold the distinction.
Turning up the heat on molten salt valves
Sandia is partnering with Flowserve Corp. and Kairos Power LLC on a $2.5 million, three-year DOE Advanced Valve Project grant to lower the cost and boost the efficiency of concentrating solar power in the U.S.

Road construction finishes early
Construction of the road project on Kirtland Air Force Base, west of the Eubank gate entrance, began Oct. 1, 2019, and was expected to take 12 months. But thanks to reduced traffic due to the pandemic, the project was finished two months early and under budget.
Bike to Work Week re-imagined
Bike to Work Week has been moved to September this year, due to the pandemic, and since many Labs employees are still working from home, the Sandia Bicycle Commuter Group is adapting the annual event a little further, encouraging participants to “bike to get somewhere.”

While the world awaits an effective vaccine for COVID-19, Sandia is encouraging employees to get another vaccine that is available now: the 2020 flu vaccine.

Sandia systems engineer Carrie O’Hara has been selected as a 2020 Women Worth Watching award winner by Profiles in Diversity Journal. The awards, in their 19th year, recognize dynamic professional women who are using their talents and influence to change our workplaces and our world.
NM companies may receive up to $150K in technical assistance
Eligible New Mexico companies have submitted statements of intent to work with scientists and engineers at Sandia or Los Alamos national laboratories through the Technology Readiness Gross Receipts Tax Credit Initiative. The new program allows selected companies to receive up to $150,000 in direct technical assistance per year for prototyping, proof-of-concept, field demonstrations, technical validation, testing and development or other activities.
