DOE Regional Science Bowl – California

All California Bay Area schools are invited to compete in the 2026 Regional Science Bowls for high school and middle school students. The Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics. Student teams are comprised of four students, one alternate, and a teacher (or non-faculty adult) who serves as an advisor and coach. These teams face-off in a fast-paced question-and-answer format, being tested on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth and space science, physics, energy, and math. The winning team (5 students and 1 coach) of each regional competition qualifies to compete in the annual U.S. Department of Energy’s NATIONAL SCIENCE BOWL®.

  • Regional Middle School Science Bowl: Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Las Positas College 
  • Regional High School Science Bowl: Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Las Positas College 
  • National DOE National Science Bowl: April 30 – May 4, 2026 in Washington DC

Process for Regional Competition
Regional competitions will open Monday, October 6, 2025, and will remain open until 3 weeks prior to the regional competition.
