As one part of an initiative to help address the growing need for cybersecurity specialists, DOE developed the Consortium Enabling Cybersecurity Opportunities & Research, or CECOR, to create educational opportunities in technical areas for minority youths.
National Senior Games attracts Sandia athletes
Sandians from all over the Labs participated in this year’s National Senior Games in Albuquerque in June. With participants ranging from 50 to 103 years old, this year’s games offered Sandians and their families a chance to test their athletic abilities against some of the best senior athletes in the country.

Forbes names Sandia a top large employer for 2019
Three months after being recognized by Forbes as a top workplace for diversity, Sandia has earned another Forbes distinction, this time a spot among the 500 Best Large Employers. According to Forbes, the winners were chosen based on an independent survey of approximately 50,000 U.S. employees who work for companies that employ at least 1,000 people in their U.S. operations.
‘MANOS’ needs a hand

Sandia’s Manos — or “hands-on” — program is looking for the next generation of Sandia volunteer mentors to provide that spark for science, technology, engineering and math in local middle school students.

Forbes Media has recognized Sandia as one of America’s Best Employers for Diversity in 2019. Sandia is the only national lab on the list of 500 companies and research labs. The honor is based an independent survey of employees at companies with more than 1,000 employees across all industry sectors.
Three Sandia Labs researchers earn national honors in leadership and technology
Three Sandia researchers were honored for their leadership and technical achievements at the 2019 Black Engineer of the Year STEM Global Competitiveness Conference. Warren Davis, Quincy Johnson and Olivia Underwood received their awards during the conference in Washington, D.C. The annual meeting recognizes black scientists and engineers and is a program of the national Career Communications Group, which advocates for corporate diversity.
“White Christmas” and a wish for current and future generations
Baby Boomer Pam Hansen-Hellwege reflects on a conversation with millenials and children about the lack of diversity in the 1954 movie White Christmas. Seeing their observations as a hopeful sign for the future, she notes that at least two generations of citizens she interacts with on a regular basis see a whole community of people when they look at the horizon.
