Electromagnetic Technology at Sandia National Laboratories

Electromagnetics (EM) is the study of the nature and interaction of static and dynamic electric and magnetic fields. Telecommunications, navigational guidance, radar, and power transmission depend on our ability to generate, guide, radiate, receive, and detect electromagnetic waves. Virtually all electronic devices either produce or are subjected to some kind of EM environment.

Sandia’s electromagnetics expertise includes testing, experiments, design and requirements consultation, modeling and simulation, and theory.

Sandia National Laboratories has a collection of state-of-the art capabilities and facilities. Our facilities include a Mode-Stirred Chamber, a large Transverse Electromagnetic (TEM) cell for EMR and EMP testing, a severe environments Lightning Simulator, an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Laboratory, and High Voltage Testing Capabilities. All our facilities are automated under computer control and have extensive data acquisition and processing capability.
