Biography
Yorgos has studied Biology in the department of Biological Applications and Technology at the University of Ioannina, Greece (Bachelor/ Master Integrated degree) and later obtained with PhD in Plants Biology from the University of Grenoble Alps, France. During his PhD study, he focused on the light-related cellular signaling at the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. His overall experience from academic and industrial labs includes a strong scientific foundation in molecular biology, physiology, biochemistry, and data analysis, working with unicellular eukaryotes (fungi and algae).
During his postdoctoral tenure in Sandia since March 2023, he has actively contributed to Sandia’s algae programs, focusing on the application of multi-omic analyses and observations to scale up algae pond cultures for biomanufacturing purposes.
