Biography

Taylor Moehling started at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA in 2020 as a postdoc and joined a team designing a portable platform to rapidly detect SARS-CoV-2 directly from clinical samples. Other notable projects include characterizing a pathogen-agnostic enrichment technique, designing single-tube multiplexed molecular assays, developing a computational model to predict the effects of genomic mutations on detection assays, and standardizing sequencing protocols for pathogen monitoring in wastewater. Taylor also works with Sandia’s Global Chemical and Biological Security team in Nigeria and with the Systems Analysis group to conceptualize an International Biological Monitoring System. Ultimately, she is interested in both improving the fundamental understanding of and translating molecular assays from the laboratory to the point of need to enable widespread access to accurate detection tools.
