Sandia Nuclear Facilities

Since the late 1950s, we have been a center of excellence for nuclear research and development, providing the nation and the world with innovative solutions to their ever-changing needs. From our inception, we have partnered with the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, NATO Allies, NASA, DARPA, the intelligence community, and the Department Homeland Security to solve critical problems.

Currently, our primary mission is to maintain and operate facilities for radiation hardness and assurance testing for the Nuclear Security Enterprise. These facilities provide the unique neutron and gamma environments necessary to qualify and certify components for the nuclear deterrent.

Sandia’s Nuclear Facilities will continue to deliver on time, at scale, and with capabilities necessary to match the mission needs of the 21st century.
