Mark Sellers recognized for diversity leadership
Mark Sellers, associate labs director for mission assurance, has earned a 2020 Diversity Leader Award from Profiles in Diversity Journal for advancing the evolution of diversity and inclusion at Sandia. He was recognized for designing and implementing hiring practices that are “impressive and inspiring.”
Federal Laboratory Consortium honors Sandia successes
Four Sandia innovations have been honored this year with national Federal Laboratory Consortium awards. The national FLC awards are some of the most prestigious honors for federal laboratories and industry partners. The awards recognize outstanding technology transfer achievements.
Excellence in action
Sandia’s Laboratory Operating System program honored three teams that demonstrated lean thinking and behavior, improved operations and saved the Labs time and money in fiscal year 2019. Labs Director James S. Peery, Deputy Labs Director Dori Ellis and Business Excellence Director Joan Tafoya honored the teams at a ceremony in February, highlighting their innovations and how the teams challenged the status quo.
Innovate New Mexico features two Sandia inventors
The seventh annual Innovate New Mexico Technology Showcase gave researchers from institutions across the state the opportunity to pitch technologies to industry representatives and investors. Sandia sponsored the event this year, and two Labs researchers presented along with 10 scientists from six additional organizations.

NM Legislature honors Sandia researchers
Sandia researchers Katya Casper and Vincent Urias were honored for their research and presented with certificates on the floor of the New Mexico House of Representatives Feb. 17. The awards were proposed by State Rep. Abbas Akhil, a former Sandian.
Postdoc Technical Showcase
Sandia’s Albuquerque campus hosted its 2019 Postdoctoral Technical Showcase at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in December. The annual event brings together early-career postdoctoral scientists and engineers with Labs’ leaders and decision-makers for a technical poster competition and mentor awards.
Tammy Kolda named ACM Fellow
Sandia mathematician Tammy Kolda has been elected Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery. She earned the honor for her “innovations in algorithms for tensor decompositions, contributions to data science and community leadership.”
Secretary of Energy Achievement Awards
Sandians were members of several teams honored in November by then Energy Secretary Rick Perry in a ceremony at DOE headquarters. The teams received Secretary of Energy Achievement Awards, which recognize significant achievements by DOE employees and contractors.
