The Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation (CAMINO) is Sandia’s initiative to build advanced manufacturing competencies and mission-grade trust that will accelerate product realization for critical missions.

Advanced Manufacturing represents a paradigm shift in design and production innovation. By leveraging new technologies such as artificial intelligence and 3D printing, advanced manufacturing can transform the way businesses create critical products for complex missions. These capabilities enable the realization of designs that were once impossible, opening up new possibilities for enhanced performance through a broader range of materials. Advanced manufacturing accelerates product delivery by utilizing proven breakthroughs in automation and machine learning.

CAMINO embodies a forward-thinking future engineering approach that integrates many of these new technologies within a centralized hub, fostering collaboration among industry, academia, and federal laboratory partners. By leveraging capabilities in digital engineering, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing tools and workflows, CAMINO will encourage collaboration and innovation, ultimately accelerating the fulfillment of national security objectives.

  • Tailored Physical and Digital Resources: A dedicated space for mission teams to access expertise in product realization and machinery, redefining the possibilities for new product development.
  • Mission and Expert Networks: A collaboration framework designed to connect key stakeholders, facilitating the progression from low-fidelity concepts to high-fidelity integration and seamlessly linking qualification and production.
  • Roadmap-Driven Investments: A strategic focal point for applying cutting-edge science and research to meet mission needs and accelerate learning cycles.
