Biography
Heather Mercer is a postdoctoral researcher in the Molecular and Microbiology division at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. Her project focuses on generating data to train deep learning sequential model to predict CRISPR edit signatures. By analyzing the patterns and characteristics of CRISPR edit signatures, we aim to develop a robust predictive model that can assist researchers in identifying genes that have been edited. In the event of a threat on national security using biological agents, our research will give us the knowledge to understand how CRISPR technology may have been used to enhance the pathogenicity of an organism. This understanding is crucial for developing countermeasures and responses to mitigate potential risks and safeguard public health.
