Accelerating learning and innovation

To continue building effective leaders from the ground up, Sandia redesigned training for leaders at all levels. The Labs’ annual career development event, Careerapalooza, was attended by more than 4,300 employees interested in learning about the full range of available career paths. Employees also attended innovation workshops to enhance their understanding of design thinking and change leadership in support of Sandia’s goal to accelerate innovation. • 3000

Fostering a healthier workplace

Sandia provided psychological well-being sessions to help employees build resilience, with 2,600 employees participating. Sandia branded May as Mental Health and Well-Being Month and hosted several mental health and well-being events throughout the year, including a promotion for Suicide Prevention Month in September and Let’s Take It Outside in October. New and enhanced benefits were added, including additional floating holidays, increased vacation time, $1,500 for childcare needs and expanded eligibility for Sandia’s 401(k) match. • 3000

Evolving Labs culture

A team of Sandians representing all divisions and employee perspectives defined an aspirational culture that aligns with mission needs, Labs goals and staff voices. More than 3,300 Sandians attended the introductory event. An employee-led Community of Practice, which has grown to over 200 members, and Culture Trailblazers are driving the culture efforts and the Culture Evolution Plan forward. • 3000

Expanding opportunities to develop and advance

The Labs launched a new performance engagement and compensation system to further enhance how it attracts, retains and motivates employees in alignment with its mission, aspirational culture and compensation philosophy. The system emphasizes career development and aligns rewards with goals and subsequent outcomes to increase employee satisfaction. It motivates and encourages recognition and more frequent conversations between managers and employees. As part of the new system, intralevel advancements were introduced, providing employees with more opportunities to grow faster. • 3000
