Scientists, leaders take home five awards honoring their work
Five female Sandia employees with significant accomplishments in science, engineering, management or diversity and inclusion were among the winners of two prestigious career achievement and leadership awards from the Women of Color STEM Conference and Women Worth Watching awards.
Jackie Chen elected fellow of the American Physical Society
Jackie Chen has been elected a fellow of the American Physical Society, an honor afforded each year to no more than one-half percent of society members. She was honored “for fundamental insights into turbulence-chemistry interactions revealed through massively parallel direct numerical simulations.”
Six join ranks of Labs Fellows
Sandia has appointed six technically outstanding researchers to the extraordinary position of Fellow. The new appointees, from a wide variety of backgrounds, include the first female Sandia Fellow, Katherine Hansen Simonson, and the first Hispanic Sandia Fellow, Gil Herrera.

David Martinez, engineering project lead for Sandia’s infrastructure computing services, received DOE’s Federal Energy and Water Management Award for contributions to a water-saving technique.
Society of Women Engineers recognizes Jackie Chen with its highest honor
Jackie Chen has been recognized with an Achievement Award from the Society of Women Engineers for her impact on the society and the engineering community. The award is the highest honor given by the society and recognizes outstanding technical contributions of at least 20 years in engineering.
Business partnerships, technology transfer earn Sandia four regional awards
Sandia has won four regional awards from the Federal Laboratory Consortium for its work to develop and commercialize innovative technologies. The annual FLC awards program recognizes federal laboratories and their industry partners for outstanding technology transfer achievements.
Q&A with 2019 Truman Fellows
Sandia will welcome two new Truman Fellows in October. Pauli Kehayias and Thomas O’Connor will join the Labs for the next three years to apply breakthroughs they have made in their respective fields to Sandia applications.
Sandia engineer receives top honor
Sandia researcher Brandon Heimer has been selected to participate in the National Academy of Engineering’s (NAE) 24th annual U.S. Frontiers of Engineering symposium. The academy called Brandon one of 84 of the nation’s “top-notch” engineers performing exceptional engineering research and technical work in a variety of disciplines.
