The Sandia Washington, D.C. office is a vital resource and supporting facility for Sandia visitors, the NNSA laboratories and associated government agencies in the Washington area.
The office is located in L’Enfant Plaza, a short walk from the U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters’ Forrestal Building. The office offers classified and unclassified conference spaces, as well as offices of convenience available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The DC office team includes protocol, IT and security personnel who are available to support personnel and visitors working from the Washington, D.C. office.

Please begin all Washington, D.C. Office support requests by contacting DC Office Support. This includes:
- Office space and workspace needs.
- Building access and visitor-related support.
- Technology or equipment assistance.
- General DC Office questions.
Offices of convenience: Offices of convenience are available on a first-come, first-served basis and do not require a Meeting Request Form.
Building access: Members of the workforce must wear their DOE-issued HSPD-12 badge or Sandia site-specific badge while visiting the facility. Those without a DOE-issued HSPD-12 badge should contact DC Office Support for assistance prior to their arrival.
Some requests may require direct coordination with a specific DC Office team member, such as security or IT personnel. In those cases, individual follow-up is appropriate; however, the initial request should be submitted through the DC Office Support.
Personal electronic devices: You will need to store PEDs, including phones and other Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-enable devices, upon entry. Lockers are available to secure your items.
Sandia is a smoke-free and drug-free workplace. Smoking inside is prohibited on all Sandia-managed property.

Reagan National Airport (DCA)
DCA, the closet airport, is approximately 4 miles from the Sandia Washington, D.C. office.
Transportation
- The Metrorail Station provides easy, convenient, and affordable access to and from the D.C. Office.
- On-Airport Rental Car counters are located on the first floor of Parking 1 Ride share.
- Ride App Pickup: Uber and Lyft
- Flags are located outside on the outer terminal curb designate the appropriate pick-up loading zones.
Dulles International Airport (IAD)
BWI is approximately 40 miles from the Sandia Washington D.C. office. During rush hour, travel time is significant.
Transportation
- The Metrorail Station Silver Line has direct rail access to downtown Washington,
- Rental Car – From the Terminal Baggage Claim Level, exit DOWN the ramp to Door 2 and 4. Rental car shuttle buses pick up at Curb 2C or Curb 2D.
- Ride App Pickup: Uber and Lyft
- The 3rd curb is located on the ground level outside of Baggage Claim, accessible via Doors 2, 4 or 6.
- Numbered and lettered zones (3A-3H) make finding your ride easy.
Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI)
BWI is approximately 40 miles from the Sandia Washington, D.C. office. During rush hour, travel time is significant.
Ground Transportation
- The MARC Penn Line provides convenient rail service between BWI Marshall Rail Station and Washington’s Union Station. A free airport shuttle provides service between the BWI terminal and the BWI Marshall Rail.
- Rental Car – Passengers arriving on flights can board the Rental Car shuttle from any of 3 locations: Inner Curb of the Arrivals/Lower Level at Doors 1, 11 and 16.
- Ride share
- Service pick up and drop off passengers along the outer curb of the Departures/Upper Level between Doors #5-12.
- Crosswalks leading to the outer curb are located near Doors 5, 7 8, 11 and 12.
