On June 25, 2026, Loraine Torres-Castro from Sandia National Laboratories gave a plenary talk titled “Interaction-Driven Thermal Risk in Solid-State Batteries” at Beyond Lithium-Ion XVI (BLI-XVI) in Berkeley, California. The invited plenary highlighted research on thermal risk in solid-state batteries, a promising battery type nearing commercialization. The talk shared prior and ongoing studies refining how scientists quantify and predict SSB failures, helping increase safety and lower costs.
The Beyond Lithium-Ion conference brings together scientists, engineers, and decision makers from universities, national laboratories, and industry. This year’s event was hosted by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories and focused on the design of electrochemical energy storage and conversion systems to support energy security.
