Conference presentation: LDES Policy Landscape in the U.S.

On Monday, June 22, Sandia’s Will McNamara presented at the IREDonline 2026 conference titled, “Battery Energy Storage Plants in Power Systems – Markets, Technologies and Regulation.” The topic of Will’s presentation was “LDES Policy Landscape in the U.S.” and included an update on current activities of the LDES National Consortium, which McNamara has led since January 2024.

The IREDonline conference aims to address the pressing challenges and opportunities that come with integrating high shares of distributed resources into power grids worldwide. The conference focused on the evolving role of battery energy storage systems across scales. As battery deployment accelerates, optimizing battery systems’ integration into power systems is becoming increasingly important to support reliability, flexibility, and security.
