The 2023 MLDL Workshop hosted tutorial sessions and an accompanying hackathon for members of the Sandia workforce. A brief overview is below.

Tutorials

Several educational tutorial talks will be held over two days. The goal of these tutorials is to bring interested Sandians up to speed on common machine learning terms and techniques, and to provide enough background and context so that attendees will be able to attend and meaningfully engage with the main Workshop talks and this year’s Hackathon.

The general audience for this activity is someone with a passing understanding of machine learning or data science. Generally, math or computer science backgrounds are not necessary. Attend “A Total Beginner’s Introduction to Machine Learning” on the first day to get the background needed for the rest of the tutorials and the Workshop.

Hackathon

These tutorials culminate in 2 sessions focused on first setting up a Hackathon development environment, and providing an introduction to the Hackathon problems and how scoring will be calculated. Participation is welcome even if participants have no prior experience with machine learning or coding. Teaming up with participants with some coding experience will make participation easier.

For 2023, the Tutorials and Hackathon were open only to members of the Sandia workforce. Please contact the MLDL Workshop committee if you have any questions here.
