50th monument marked

SIGN OF THE TIMES — During the 75th Anniversary festivities in October, workers from Facilities installed a new 50th Anniversary marker on the plaza outside of Building 810, providing information about the 50th Anniversary “Windows in Time” monument. Teams led by Labs architect Susan Spencer, structural engineer Tom Bosiljevac, planner Mace Wells and Joe Olguin of Structural Services designed and developed the marker. It reads: “In 1999, as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Sandia installed this tribute to the Labs’ workforce. Created by Architects David Humble and Rico Ortiz, the monument incorporated the external hoist frame from the west end of Building 828, a recently removed environmental test facility originally built for Z division in 1946. The older building’s design is traced in the monument’s hoist, frame, and windows, which hold images of Sandians working through the decades.” (Photo by Craig Fritz)
