Course Description Summary:
In today’s security landscape, the threat of radiological terrorism demands that law enforcement agencies be fully prepared to respond effectively. The DOE/NNSA Office of Radiological Security (ORS) Radiological Security Awareness and Response (RSAR) program is designed to equip law enforcement and first responders with the essential knowledge and skills to protect against and respond to incidents involving the theft of radioactive materials. The program focuses on enhancing response capabilities, enabling personnel to act confidently and rapidly to minimize risks and ensure public safety.
The RSARex Train-the-Trainer Workshop is a comprehensive 2-day program that empowers law enforcement trainers to establish and sustain RSAR programs within their agencies, strengthening overall readiness and security.
This workshop covers critical topics such as identifying radioactive materials of concern—located throughout the Salt Lake City region —tactical response strategies, emergency communication protocols, and the use of personal radiation detection equipment. Participants will also learn how to develop customized “just-in-time” training curricula and design realistic exercises and scenarios tailored to their agency’s needs.
Through interactive, hands-on learning, attendees will collaborate with ORS instructors to create training materials, conduct teach-back sessions and run practical scenarios. By the end of the workshop, trainers will be equipped to deliver effective RSAR training that enhances their agency’s readiness to prevent and respond to radiological threats, ultimately strengthening public safety and national security.
