Advanced Reactor Safeguards and Security Physical Security Workshop

The Advanced Reactor Safeguards and Security program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Nuclear Energy, will be hosting an Advanced Reactor Physical Security Workshop at Sandia National Laboratories, March 2-6, 2026. This workshop will center on physical security for U.S. domestic deployment of advanced reactors and fuel cycle facilities following either DOE or U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) siting with a focus on alignment of regulatory requirements. The meeting will also cover Material Control and Accounting. The following is an outline of the topics that will be discussed:
- Physical Protection requirements and recommendations for all classes of reactors and fuel cycle facilities.
- Alignment between DOE Orders (for DOE Siting) with NRC licensing including alignment to new NRC rulemaking.
- Breakout sessions on Material Control and Accounting for reactors and fuel cycle facilities.
- Optimization and size-appropriate approaches.
