Researchers have used MELCOR for several types of advanced nuclear reactor applications including sodium fast reactors (SFRs), high-temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGRs), fluoride-salt-cooled high-temperature reactors (FHRs), and molten salt reactors (MSRs). MELCOR can represent the unique thermophysical and thermochemical conditions, physical and chemical accident phenomena, and fission product release and transport relevant to these advanced nuclear energy technologies.
