Our Mission Challenge

We seek to create an ecosystem of compatible tools, techniques, and methods that gives us confidence in the digital assurance of our high consequence systems. Along the way, we aim to develop the scientific foundation needed to create rigorous, rapid, cost-effective, generalizable digital assurance across high-consequence systems’ lifecycles.

At the highest level, we must be able to:

  • Characterize the digital technologies within our systems at any point in their lifecycles, including design, qualification, and sustainment
  • Assess the risks to our systems from digital technologies and adversaries, moving well beyond vulnerability-focused security
  • Select among design and implementation options that appropriately manage and accept digital risks while balancing against other trade-offs (for example, resilience, safety, size, weight, power, cost)

Technical Framework

Image of Scalable Analysis

Scalable Analysis

Dramatically scale end-to-end DAHCS, seeking at least two orders of magnitude (when a baseline exists) improvement in time/cost or complexity of handled digital technologies

Image of Impact Analysis Amid Uncertainty

Impact Analysis Amid Uncertainty

Measure and increase confidence in an assurance case and its evidence, e.g., by identifying what additional information is needed to increase confidence sufficiently

Image of Integrated with Sysyems Engineering

Integrating with Systems Engineering

Support systems-level decisions about digital assurance and residual risks, including making tradeoffs among digital technologies and digital design options

Image of Revolutionary DAHCS

Revolutionary DAHCS

Approach DAHCS in entirely new ways that meet our needs of scalability, generalizability, integration, and rigor

Image of Targeted Revolution

Targeted Evaluation

Demonstrate integration of DAHCS Mission Campaign (MC) Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) into an ecosystem through small, applied research projects

DAHCS Testbed

We will make claims about digital technologies both within and directly influencing the DAHCS Testbed controllers

Partner with DAHCS

The DAHCS MC seeks partnerships with universities, government agencies, national labs, businesses, industries, and non-profits to foster a unified research community focused on DAHCS research challenges.
