
Farnaz Alimehri is a senior member of technical staff at the Center for Global Security and Cooperation (CGSC) and the lead for the MENA and Africa region under the Cooperative Monitoring Center (CMC) at Sandia National Laboratories. Farnaz works on programs focused on regional security and arms control in the Middle East, international nuclear safeguards, international capacity building, and the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Prior to joining Sandia, Farnaz spent three years at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria where she trained Safeguards staff, including nuclear safeguards inspectors and analysts. At the IAEA, she was also responsible for conducting long-term monitoring and evaluation projects for the Safeguards Training Section and for the IAEA Comprehensive Capacity-Building Initiative for State Systems of Account for and the Control of Nuclear Material and State Regulatory
Authorities (COMPASS).
Farnaz also previously worked as a Nonproliferation Policy Expert Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois and as a Research Assistant at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation studies in Washington, DC. In her previous work, her projects centered on export controls, counterproliferation finance, safeguards, and Middle East regional security. Farnaz holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Regis University, a Master of Arts in Security Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Biohazardous Threat Agents and Emerging Infectious Diseases from Georgetown University. She has a professional certification as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Nuclear Science and Technology from Manchester University.
