In his current position as a Senior Member of Technical Staff in the Global Chemical and Biological Security (GCBS) group, Alex Walser works to reduce biological risks in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. He also trains first responders in partner nations and develops projects in the areas of
biosafety and biosecurity. Alex leads CMC efforts in the Middle East and North Africa.

Prior to joining Sandia, Alex founded and consulted for IBEX Consultants, a Denver-area business that provides training in security, geopolitical affairs, emergency response, and infectious disease. Alex also worked as an EMT in Denver, where he also acted as agency lead for infection control and prevention.

Alex served in U.S. Army for 6 years, serving in various leadership positions during deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. For his service overseas, Alex was awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with ā€œVā€ device for valor, and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Alex earned an M.S. in Microbiology from Colorado State University and an M.A. in International Studies from Denver University’s Korbel School of International Affairs. He also holds a graduate certificate in Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness from Saint Louis University’s School of Public Health and a B.A. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
