Niels Kornerup has been awarded the prestigious Harry S. Truman Fellowship and will join the QuAAC team at Sandia National Laboratories. Established in 2004, the Truman Fellowship aims to attract exceptional new Ph.D. scientists and engineers to advance national security science and engineering.
Named after President Harry S. Truman, who entrusted Sandia with critical national interests in 1949, the fellowship embodies a commitment to excellence. Truman Fellows engage in groundbreaking research that supports Sandia’s national-security mission, with the freedom to choose their research topics and access to state-of-the-art facilities in New Mexico and California.
Kornerup, who recently completed his Ph.D. at The University of Texas at Austin, specializes in theoretical computer science, focusing on time-space lower bounds for classical and quantum computation. He is also exploring the connections between stochastic thermodynamics and computation. Each Fellow is paired with a mentor from Sandia’s technical staff to ensure a collaborative and enriching experience, fostering early career development in a supportive environment.
