MAVERIC North

MAVERIC North features relevant, realistic infrastructure, equipment, and material approaches for radiological source characterization, monitoring of items in deployed storage, portal monitoring, radiological sensing, and perimeter surveillance measures. The nature of the overall test bed makes it an ideal tool for evaluating concepts of operations, executing training, or conducting exercises.

Facilities

MAVERIC North occupies approximately 180,000 square feet of a former military munitions storage site on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. MAVERIC North is not a limited area, enabling easier access for international or uncleared visitors. The site includes two former munitions bunkers, observation facilities, and support buildings enclosed within an unsecured fenced perimeter.

The test bed also includes use of the southern span of the perimeter fence and the main access gate to test portal monitoring and detection and assessment technologies.

Key Operational Environments

MAVERIC North features a bunker compound and physical perimeter relevant to key operational environments:

  • Central storage and staging
  • Deployed storage
  • Deployed systems
  • Perimeter and boundary monitoring

Site observation tower.

Perimeter monitoring test area.

Radiation portal monitoring foundation.

Specialized Tools and Equipment

  • Inspection Equipment: MAVERIC North features handheld x-ray radiography as the principal means for inspecting equipment and items of interest.
  • Mock Weapon and H-Gear Inventory: MAVERIC North serves as a storage and staging space for 82 pieces of H-Gear and weapon mockups to be used in place of live operational items during test or exercise scenarios.
  • Radiological Test Sources: Matched sources are stored to enable immediate access when testing scenarios common to the MAVERIC North environment. These sources are also available for use across the test bed.
