Microgrid Hardening Design Toolkit

Sandia National Laboratories has developed the Microgrid Hardening Design Toolkit, a decision support software for microgrid stakeholders that is publicly available for download. This tool, delivered in a self-contained executable (.exe) is meant to help stakeholders make geographically informed decisions for microgrid hardening that can be tailored to specific circumstances during normal microgrid design process.

Intended for use in the early stages of the design process, the tool and its associated report:

  • Describes a generalizable framework for strategic planning, design, and implementation of hardened cyber-physical microgrids.
  • Identifies geographical hazards applicable to communities
  • Quantifies the severity of those hazards
  • Recommends appropriate hardening technologies responsive to the type and severity of hazards

Who can get value from this tool?

Microgrid planning, design, deployment, and operations has many key roles and many key stakeholders. These roles can be fluid, and stakeholder segments often overlap within them.
