John A. Biddiscombe

John A. Biddiscombe completed his degree in electronic engineering at Warwick University in 1989. From 1990 onwards John held several positions at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory that initially lead him to work in the Radar and Space Group implementing tracking and control software for an airborne altimeter and later a rain Radar. In 1995 he moved to the Radio Communications Research Unit where he became Software Development Manager for theoretical modelling, working on radio propagation and 3D modelling and simulation tools, in particular pioneering the use of large scale high resolution 3D building databases in propagation analysis. This experience lead John to found his own company – Skipping Mouse Software Ltd. – in 2000. Whilst maintaining his role as director of Skipping Mouse Software Ltd. John worked for a medical imaging company, Mirada Solutions Ltd. as Senior Software Engineer and leader of the Imaging Technical Working Group. In 2004 John joined the visualization group of CSCS bringing his specialized VTK knowledge to the group. In this role he has worked on a variety of visualization and programming projects for the CSCS user community. During the fall of 2005 he developed a visualization tool for the Cray XT3 computer to enable the technical team to better track hardware failures and solve them.
