Bobby’s research interests include: algorithms for nonsmooth and nonconvex optimization, trust region algorithms, proximal algorithms, and PDE-constrained optimization. Bobby is also contributes to Rapid Optimization Library (ROL) and RegularizedOptimization package in Julia.

Bobby earned his B.S. in Mathematics from North Carolina State University in 2016, doing work in biomathematics with Dr. H.T. Banks. In 2021, he earned his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington under the supervision of Aleksandr Aravkin with dissertation “Nonconvex and Nonsmooth Inverse Problems.” Bobby joined Sandia Labs in 2021 as the John von Neumann fellow, working with Drew Kouri.
