TITANS: Interdisciplinary Design, Engineering, and Assurance Students

The Interdisciplinary Design, Engineering, and Assurance Students (IDEAS) program is a multi- discipline, product focused intern program that provides engineering design, components, subsystems, integration, testing, and field support for nuclear weapons and other national security applications. Examples of these applications include the development of satellite and other space-flight payloads and testing for high consequence military programs.

IDEAS interns will work collaboratively with experienced Technical Staff on research and development, analysis of technology and engineering options, project design, testing, data acquisition, and data analysis.

IDEAS interns are part of a Sandia program, Technical Internships to Advance National Security (TITANS), which offers students valuable cross-exposure to projects in other TITANS tracks.

What You Gain:

  • Data analysis algorithm development

  • Object-oriented software engineering and development

  • Digital and/or Analog design

  • Data acquisition, processing, and exploitation

Project Types:

  • Developing software for a wide variety of applications

  • Development of satellite and other space-flight payloads

  • Testing for high consequence military programs

  • Writing test vectors to exercise ASIC functionality

  • Characterizing electronics power consumption for various operational configurations

From embedded hardware and software development to mechanical design of structures, interns will work on a teams with experienced technical staff to create novel designs and solutions for National Security applications. Specific tasks will vary with the timing and nature of the project as well as the interns skills and aptitude, but can include writing SW in a variety of languages including C/C++, Python, VHDL, LabVIEW, etc.
