Alok Choudhary is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northwestern University. He also holds an adjunct appointment with the Kellogg School of Management in the Marketing and Technology Innovation Departments. In 2000, Dr. Choudhary co-founded Accelchip, Inc., a developer of electronic design automation tools and services. He served as its Vice President for Research and Technology from 2000 to 2002. In addition, Alok has worked as a consultant and technical advisory board member for many companies
From 1989 to 1996, Dr. Choudhary was on the faculty of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Syracuse University, where he received the prestigious National Science Foundation’s Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1993. He has also received an IEEE Engineering Foundation award, an IBM Faculty Development award, an Intel Research Council award, and in 2004 was elected to the grade of Fellow in the IEEE.
Dr. Choudhary is the founder and director of the Center for Ultra-scale Computing and Information Security (CUCIS). His research interests are in high-performance computing and communication systems, power aware systems, computer architecture, high-performance I/O systems and software and their applications in many domains including information processing (e.g., data mining, CRM, BI) and scientific computing (e.g., scientific discoveries). Furthermore, his interests lie in the design and evaluation of architectures and software systems (from system software such as runtime systems to compilers), high-performance servers, high-performance databases and input-output and software protection/security.
In these areas Dr. Choudhary has published more than 250 papers in various journals and conferences. He has also written a book and several book chapters on the above topics. Alok serves on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Systems, and the International Journal of High Performance Computing and Networking.
Alok received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1989, an M.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1986, and his B.E. (Hons.) degree from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India in 1982.
