Bill Blake brings over two decades of industry experience in the product management and development of high performance computing systems to Netezza Corporation. The Netezza Performance Server is the market-leading data ware house appliance built specifically to analyze terabytes of detailed data—10-50 times faster than anything on the market. Since 2002, as Senior Vice President of Product Development, he is responsible for all aspects of product management, database and system software, hardware and quality assurance.
Prior to Netezza, Blake served as vice president of High Performance Technical Computing (HPTC) at Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation where he was responsible for the development and marketing of HPTC solutions including parallel compilers and the company’s AlphaServer SC supercomputers.
Compaq’s involvement in grid computing was initiated by Bill’s organization in response to the needs of the High Performance Computing customers at the National Labs in the U.S. and key research customers such as CERN in Europe. Bill outlined his group’s strategy at the Global Grid Forum 3 in Frascati Italy in 2001. Later that year, he was invited to discuss Grid Computing on the World Business Review with Gen. Al Haig. Bill has been called to testify before the U.S. House Science Research committee on his group’s work in high performance and grid computing at Sandia National Lab, Pittsburg Supercomputing Center and Celera Genomics, Inc. Blake was trained at the undergraduate and graduate level in Electrical Engineering at the Lowell Technological Institute. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the American Association of Artificial Intelligence. Bill served on the board of directors for the OpenMP Organization and Unlimited Scale, Inc., and is a current Director of Etnus, Inc.
