The MicroChemLab, using gas chromatography and chemically selective surface acoustic wave array or laser induced fluorescence, provides miniaturized bench-scale analyses capable of highly accurate detection and identification of proteins, viruses, and bacteria - Curtis Mowry.

A multimodal diagnostic tool that can simultaneously test for both viruses and antibodies that signal viral infection. DuoBox utilizes both Smart Trap and SpinDx technology by perform Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification to simultaneously perform DNA/RNA assays and immunoassays.

Molecular Biology Tools for Pathogen Identification and Countermeasures

Dramatically increases the speed, efficiency, and flexibility of modifying genomes. NanoCRISPR is RNA guided editing of multiple genes with both ex vivo and in vivo delivery capabilities and a 90% success rate - Oscar Negrete.

Reduces novel pathogen characterization timeline from the current range of approx. 54-658 hours to approx. 14-36 hours to help save lives. RapTOR combines fast and cheap suppression with capture, enrichment, and Next Generation Sequencing library prep methods to create an Automated Molecular Biology platform that quickens identification of novel pathogens - Todd W. Lane.

Peregrine Libraries

A novel, rapid and cost-effective RNA-Seq library preparation technique that produces representative, strand specific RNA-Seq libraries. This technique does not suffer from the major drawbacks of currently available methods and commercial kits for RNA-Seq library preparation such as: long processing times, large starting material requirements, uneven coverage, loss of strand information, and high cost.

Microelectroporation RNAi Device

RNA interference (RNAi) is a powerful tool for functional genomics with the capacity to comprehensively analyze host-pathogen interactions. High-throughput RNAi screening is used to systematically perturb cellular pathways and discover therapeutic targets, but the method can be tedious 10 and requires extensive capital equipment and expensive reagents. To aid in the development of an inexpensive miniaturized RNAi screening platform, we have developed a two-part microfluidic system for patterning and screening gene targets on-chip to examine cellular pathways involved in virus entry and infection.

Biosurveillance/ Environmental Monitoring

Smart Trap

Smart Trap

A shoebox sized autonomous device that gives real time indication of local risk to the public posed by mosquito-borne pathogens. Smart Trap is a networked biosurveillance device that performs automated assays with an app that both maps and statistically models vector abundance based upon results and environmental factors - Robert Meagher.

Unattended Water Sensors

Unattended Water Sensors reduce the labor and overhead of manual water testing by providing fully automated and integrated municipal water testing systems with two color detection and protein toxin analysis capabilities. UWS’s quickly sample and analyze water; reducing response time from days to hours or even minutes - Victoria Vandernoot.

ANOMLE helps bridge the gap between mathematical models and computational solvers by providing three major areas of functionality: 1) a concise, understandable formulation syntax that expresses linear optimization models within the .NET language; 2) a solver-agnostic interface that interacts with any 3rd-party optimization solver, and; 3) a remote solver capability that allows models to be created in one process and solved in another (enabling, for example, distributed optimization from within a local application).

Sandia Hyperspectral Upper-Bound Spectrum

Sandia SPT is intended to provide an easy to use single particle tracking implementation, including source code for all the required steps (spot detection, localization, and linking observations).

Sandia Simple Particle Tracking

Sandia Hyper-UBS is designed to remove cosmic ray spikes from hyperspectral data sets. This software was based upon the UBS-DM algorithm by D.M. Zhang and D. Ben-Amotz. The UBS-DM-HS algorithm is designed to be more robust and is better at removing cosmic ray spikes which impact multiple pixels.

Sandia Non-Design Coverslip Strehl Calculator

While sometimes the use of non-design coverslips for microscopy is unavoidable, doing so introduces aberrations which can severely reduce the quality of image formation as measured by the Strehl ratio or ensquared energy. This software is designed to calculate the effect of non-design materials upon the Strehl ratio or ensquared energy using the Gibson-Lanni point spread function (PSF) model.
