Mr. Torres is manager of the Energy Systems Analysis Department at Sandia National Laboratories. Research in his department includes novel techniques for improving management and control of transmission and distribution power grids, energy surety microgrids, and grid integration of renewable energy resources. In 2008, he co-led a set of studies for DOE EE to understand the technical and economic needs that must be met to support increased penetration of photovoltaics in the US. He is currently leading several projects under the DOE Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative to help Hawaii achieve a goal of 70% of their energy from renewables by 2030.
Mr. Torres has been employed by Sandia National Laboratories for 18 years working in the areas of energy, information security, and critical infrastructure protection. Mr. Torres received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology in 1990 from the University of Southern Colorado, and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1993 from the University of New Mexico.
