Two Sandia National Laboratories employees receive awards for work with small businesses

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Cynthia Schneeberger, Manager of Sandia National Laboratories’ Supplier Relations Department, has won two awards from the US Small Business Administration (SBA).

She will receive the SBA’s Frances Perkins Vanguard Award during ceremonies next month at the National SBA Small Business Week celebration in Washington, D.C. This award honors government and industry for using women-owned small businesses as prime contractors and subcontractors. Frances Perkins served as secretary of labor from 1933 to 1945 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The first woman to hold a cabinet-level position, Perkins was a social reformer who brought to her post a commitment to women’s issues.

Schneeberger was also selected as the 2001 New Mexico Minority Small Business Advocate of the Year by the SBA. She will receive the award May 1 in Albuquerque at the New Mexico Small Business Week Celebration.

Corina Gallegos, also of Sandia’s Supplier Relations Department, has been selected to receive the National Association of Purchasing Management’s 2001 Charles J. McDonald Minority Business Advocate Award. Gallegos was selected as the sole recipient of the award for her outstanding contributions to small, minority, and women-owned business. It will be presented formally at NAPM’s 86th Annual International Purchasing Conference in Orlando, Fla., April 30.

NAPM is a communication link with more than 47,000 purchasing and supply management professionals, and has a mission to provide leadership in purchasing and materials management, particularly in the areas of education, research and standards of excellence.
