ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Sandia National Laboratories and Lockheed Martin Corporation are sponsoring the sixth Annual Student Internship Program Symposium at the Albuquerque Old Town Sheraton Hotel on Aug. 9. Some 250 students from Sandia and other national labs are presenting papers and posters detailing research assignments.

The college interns, who represent every region of the United States and Puerto Rico, are assigned summer research projects in science and engineering topics.

“These students represent the best talent in the U.S. and will undoubtedly be the future discoverers and leaders in the fields of engineering and science” says Don Blanton, vice president for Human Resources at Sandia. He adds, “It is encouraging to know that our country will continue its global leadership in research and technology based on the exceptional quality of these students.”

The one-day event begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. with an awards banquet scheduled for 6 p.m. The keynote speaker for the luncheon is Lily O’Byrne, vice president for Systems Design & Integration with Lockheed Martin Enterprise Information Systems.
