Team Specialty Products to break ground for new building in Sandia Science and Technology Park

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Team Specialty Products (TSP), an engineering design and new product development company, will break ground for a new building March 16 at 10 a.m. in the Sandia Science and Technology Park, located just outside Kirtland Air Force Base's Eubank Gate. The park was founded nearly two years ago by the Department of Energy's Sandia National Laboratories.

The second new building in the park, the 13,600 square foot facility will house the company's 32 employees and have space for electronics manufacturing and mechanical fabrications. It will double the size of TSP's current location and will have room for expansion.

"This is a major step for TSP," says David Rice, company founder and president. "Moving to the Sandia Science and Technology Park will put us closer to Sandia National Laboratories and the Air Force. We'll also be near other high technology companies doing similar types of work. We see a bright future with the move."

TSP will join five current tenants of the park -- EMCORE Corp., MicroDexterity, Communications Systems Technology Inc., Analytical Solutions and Sandia's Cooperative Monitoring Center. The Sandia Science and Technology Park was established nearly two years ago in a collaborative effort between the City of Albuquerque and Sandia to attract strategic partners and technology transfer companies to locate in the park.

Rice started TSP in December 1985 as a one-man sole proprietorship. In 1989 the business grew substantially in gross revenues, incorporating in December of that year. The company moved in 1990 from a rented facility to its current location at 11030 Cochiti Rd. SE.

TSP designs, prototypes, and manufactures sophisticated electronic and mechanical devices for pulsed power and high voltage technology applications. One of the company's main customers is Sandia National Laboratories -- TSP supplies high-tech parts for Sandia's Z Machine.

In 1999 the company was selected as one of ten "Sandia Strategic Partners" in a pilot program designed to identify and develop critical suppliers at the Labs.

"We are proud of Team Specialty Products'contribution to Sandia," says Cynthia Schneeberger, manager of Supplier Relations at Sandia. "We are very pleased they have chosen the Sandia Science and Technology Park as their new home."

The new building is expected to be completed in six months. Project architect is Alexander Harrison of Albuquerque. The contractor is Gerald Martin of Albuquerque.

Sandia is a multiprogram laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company, for the United States Department of Energy under contract DE-AC04-94AL85000. With main facilities in Albuquerque, N.M., and Livermore, Calif., Sandia has major research and development responsibilities in national security, energy and environmental technologies, and economic competitiveness.
