What you need to know

CPR and First Aid Training

Employee Health & Wellbeing offers American Heart Association-certified cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid classes. These are for members of the workforce who are required to take CPR or first aid as a requirement for their job. Managers determine who is required to take these trainings through the Primary Hazard Screening process.

The prerequisite MED050 (one page questionnaire) will need to be completed prior to enrolling in MED104 and MED102.

In MED104 nonmedical personnel learn proper CPR technique, as well as choking treatment for adults. The course also covers legal and ethical considerations, safety during CPR for the rescuer and an overview of automatic external defibrillation.

MED102 provides nonmedical personnel with the information necessary to respond appropriately in the event of an injury or medical emergency. This course also teaches practical skills that show the participant how to administer first aid (i.e., controlling bleeding and managing shock).

Participants who successfully complete MED104 and MED102 courses will receive a two-year certification from the American Heart Association and a course completion in TEDS.

Members of the workforce wishing to take these courses as an elective are encouraged to review the list below of external approved vendors:

Friends and Family — Non-Certified CPR Training

Employee Health & Wellbeing is now offering a new CPR course “Family & Friends” for MOW who are NOT required to be CPR trained as part of their job duties and tasks.  In this class you will learn lifesaving skills in a dynamic group environment with American Heart Association’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique. Get hands-on practice in adult Hands-Only CPR, child/infant CPR with breaths, AED use and choking relief for all ages.  This does not replace MED104 and an AHA CPR card will not be given. Classes are offered monthly, limited to 20 seats and available for Sandia MOW. Register on TEDS.
