This ESTAP webinar is the third in a multi-part energy storage webinar series* will cover energy storage applications and economics. Numerous opportunities for revenue and cost savings have been identified for energy storage on both sides of the meter, including frequency regulation, demand charge management, arbitrage, ancillary services, T&D deferral and others. This webinar will look at when and where these opportunities exist, which services can be effectively “stacked,” how revenue-generating opportunities are sometimes limited due to market rules or utility tariffs, and what future opportunities might arise with changes in market rules and regulations.

QuESt: Optimizing Energy Storage Tool

This ESTAP webinar will provide an introduction to QuESt, an open-source software application suite for energy storage valuation. QuEST was developed by Sandia National Laboratories as a free, public tool to assist in energy storage valuation for various use cases. In this webinar, members of Sandia’s energy storage analytics group will demonstrate how to use the software and present a case study using the QuESt BTM (“behind-the-meter”) application to estimate the cost savings provided by energy storage for a time-of-use customer. This webinar is part of a larger effort to introduce software tools developed by Sandia to the public.

Massachusetts’ Municipal Utility Energy Storage Projects: Examples from Sterling, Templeton, and Wakefield

Join the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) for a free webinar with three Massachusetts municipal utilities that are using energy storage to reduce costs and provide other benefits to their customers. Representatives of the Sterling Municipal Light Department, the Templeton Municipal Light & Water Department, and the Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department will discuss their energy storage systems, explain their financial and other benefits, and offer lessons learned from designing and dispatching the battery systems.
Sterling recently announced $1 million in savings due to the use of their two batteries to control capacity and transmission costs. Templeton and Wakefield will each describe their new storage systems, their impetus for installing batteries, and early lessons learned from the design and construction process.

Oregon’s New Energy Storage Project for Resiliency and Cost Savings
