Sandia and the OPEIU negotiated into the evening without reaching an agreement. Sandia is waiting for a counterproposal to its most recent offer that included lump sum and wage increases totaling 6.5% over three years. The current contract expires at 11:59 p.m. tonight, and the union has notified Sandia that its members will work without a contract while the parties continue to negotiate.

Future bargaining dates have not been determined. Between Aug. 18 and today’s contract expiration date, OPEIU negotiators only agreed to bargain 11 days. Sandia offered to meet every day, evening and weekend, and is disappointed the union was available for less than a third of the possible negotiating days, hampering the possibility of an agreement being reached before union members had to work without a contract.
