Biography

Dan manages the Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Department at Sandia National Laboratories and leads the AI4ND initiative. The focus of his role is to establish and execute a strategy to accelerate the use of AI across the ND program while representing ND interests, needs, and perspectives to the greater Sandia AI enterprise, including research foundations and key line organizations with the domain knowledge and expertise in AI. The AI4ND initiative focuses on capabilities that will improve ND systems as well as Sandia’s business operations and is well-aligned with the three pillars and vision of Sandia’s ND Strategy.

His technical background is in the areas of high performance computing, computational mechanics, quantitative imaging and using computer generated images to train AI and ML algorithms.

Dan is also on the Board of Directors and the Secretary for the International Digital Image Correlation Society (iDICs) and is the lead developer for the Digital Image Correlation Engine (DICe).
