Landera’s research interests include physical property predictions via EOS (Equation of State) modeling. Having relevance in fuel and engine design, these properties include enthalpy of vaporization, Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP), surface tension, and viscosity. These property predictions inform future developments of gasoline fuels, diesel fuels, and aviation fuels.

Landera conducted research in atmospheric chemistry, combustion chemistry, gas phase kinetics, and thermodynamic properties of fluids for his graduate studies. Under the direction of Dr. Alexander M. Mebel, Landera worked on mechanisms of formation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in combustion, planetary atmospheres, and the interstellar medium. He additionally worked under the direction of Dr. Stephen J. Klippenstein on rate constant calculations of the pyrolysis of nitrogen containing propellants.
