For more than 20 years, Sandia has worked with U.S. federal agencies and commercial organizations on programs ranging from the U.S. Army’s Future Combat System to Joint Strike Fighter Technology Management to wind turbine and high power semiconductor electronics reliability analysis.

CSR Program Lead
In 1997, Dr. Robert Cranwell, Systems Reliability program manager at Sandia, embarked on a mission to establish a formal conduit to Sandia’s world-class resources in complex system modeling, analytics and optimization.
In 1998, the Center for Systems Reliability (CSR) was chartered for the purpose of stimulating and facilitating business relationships between Sandia and external organizations. This was a significant step forward in making the nation’s substantial technical resources, originally cultivated for the Department of Energy (DOE), available to non-DOE government agencies and U.S. industry. Although the CSR encompasses a well-defined subset of Sandia’s capabilities, it has the ability to draw upon the labs’ vast technological resources to meet the needs of its customers and collaborators.
In 2008, Bruce Thompson became Program Lead for the CSR. Today, the scope of the CSR has expanded to include modeling, simulation, and optimization technologies applied in areas such as requirements analysis, portfolio modernization, and systems-of-systems analytics in addition to reliability, availability, logistics, sustainment, and operational analysis.
When Bruce retired in 2021, Tammy Brown became CSR Program Lead and she continues to expand the range of CSR modeling, simulation, and optimization technologies.
