2005 New Mexico Environmental Health Conference Arsenic in Drinking Water: Technical Theme Session & Vendors Forum WEDNESDAY, 2 November, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm: "Meeting the New Drinking Water Standard for Arsenic": Technical Theme Session and Vendor Presentations At the 2005 NMEHC there were three activities related to implementation of the new drinking water standard for arsenic. The morning session on 2 November dealt with the status of efforts in New Mexico and other parts of the country to comply with the new MCL for arsenic by the regulatory deadline of January 23, 2006. Invited papers described results of the Arsenic Water Technology Partnership, including bench-scale studies, pilot scale studies of innovative technologies, and economic analysis of the costs of different treatment technologies. Other talks described research by universities, national laboratories and federal agencies to develop new approaches to water treatment for arsenic and co-contaminants such as uranium, nitrate and radium. In the afternoon, commercial developers of innovative treatment technologies described project histories that demonstrate the effectiveness of their products. The Forum dinner included a presentation and abstract on the Global Arsenic Crisis. THURSDAY, 3 November, 8am - 5:00 pm: Arsenic Vendors Forum: Technology Interviews (Closed Session: by invitation only) On the next day, 3 November, these same technologies will be evaluated in a closed session by independent technical experts for possible use in pilot demonstrations to be conducted by Sandia National Laboratories at community sites in 2006.
