Sandia's Satellite Communications Program

We design and build communication systems for DOE small satellites. We also operate a ground station which controls and receives data from these satellites. Our major contribution in satellite communications is using our experience in space reentry vehicle work to build less expensive satellite systems with shorter development times.

The ground station was originally designed for use in support of the checkout and data reduction of many different telemetry systems including those used on space reentry vehicles and other flight vehicles.

With the addition of two tracking antennas and some additional data processing gear, we are now able to support real-time satellite operations as well as our conventional telemetry work.
