Health Savings Account
A Health Savings Account (HSA) allows the non-Medicare retiree to put aside dollars in a tax-exempt trust or custodial account to pay or reimburse certain medical expenses you incur (as defined by Sec 213(d) of IRS Tax Code). An enrollment requirement of a Health Savings Account is the requirement for the non-Medicare primary retiree to be enrolled a compatible high deductible health plan (HDHP). The UHC High Deductible Health Plan does meet this requirement. You can enroll in an HSA either through Exante Bank with UHC (Sandia will pay the fees for opening the account) or you can open an account on your own through any institution that offers a qualified Health Saving Account.
