CORPORATE ARCHIVES EXHIBITS
As
the second in a series of exhibits sponsored by the
Corporate Archives to commemorate Sandia's 50th Anniversary,
"Putting Weapons to the Test" was displayed from January
through July in the Lobby of Building 800 and at the
Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union. It will now
travel to Sandia California. The exhibit features Sandia's
test activities at Salton Sea Test Base, Tonopah Test
Range, Coyote Canyon Test Complex, and Kauai Test Facility,
as well as support work at the Nevada Test Site. A scrapbook
design by Michael Vittitow of Creative Arts displays
photographs and artifacts from the Corporate Archives.
We invite you to stop by and
view our latest display, "Spin-offs of Weapons Work."
This display may be seen at both the Building 800
lobby and the Credit Union on Juan Tabo. It features
three spin-offs from the 1960s - the laminar flow
clean room, seismic sensors, and rolamite. The laminar
flow clean room is the earliest and one of the most
successful of Sandia's technology transfers. The exhibit
includes a drawing from inventor Willis Whitfield's
laboratory notebook and photographs of the first prototypes.
The seismic sensor portion features Sandia's very
successful Vietnam sensor work and Tom McConnell's
MIDS sensor, the most widely produced sensor system
in the world. Rolamite is an invention that excited
the press, resulting in a phenomenal amount of news
coverage - some of which is shown in this display.
We hope you will have an opportunity to view the exhibit
in the next couple of months. If you would like more
information or have materials to donate to the Corporate
Archives, please contact Myra O'Canna at 844-6315.
