NEWS FROM THE CORPORATE ARCHIVES

The first of five Sandians to serve as pueblo
governors, Juan B. "Abie" Jojola was Isleta Pueblo Governor
in 1964. |
We invite you to see Sandia: More Than A Career,
our new exhibit now on display in the lobby of Building 800
and at the Credit Union on Juan Tabo. The display illustrates
the ways Sandia enriches the lives of its employees beyond
career boundaries--through long-lasting friendships, marriages,
public service, education, entertainment, clubs, and sports.
Did you know there is a Sandia couple who shares the same
service date --they met at the new-hire orientation and later
married? The immediate members of one family have over 158
years of combined service! There have been many Sandians in
public service and several are highlighted in the exhibit.
For example, it is remarkable that five Sandians have served
as Pueblo governors and another Sandian ran for state governor.
One employee wrote an autobiography about her career at Sandia
and another poetry about his work and co-workers. Many Sandians
perform together in plays and musical groups while others
enjoy sports and clubs. Sandians weave their professional
activities into their social lives and vice versa--thus proving
that working at Sandia is much "More Than A Career."
We are happy to announce that about 300 Corporate Archives
collections are now included in the Technical Library's classified
catalog. One of our newest contributions came from retired
Vice President Dan Hartley whose records are a valuable addition
to our Combustion Research Facility collection. If you have
reference questions or materials to donate to the Corporate
Archives, please call Archivist Myra O'Canna at 844-6315.
CORPORATE ARCHIVES STILL PHOTO COLLECTION
The Corporate Archives Still Photo Collection database continues
its rapid increase. Archives Assistant Shirley Morris has
indexed approximately 75,000 negatives.
Shirley attended an Adobe Photoshop class that will enhance
her work on the revised Archives Homepage (under construction).
She also attended the "Preserving New Mexico's Historical
Records" workshop at the New Mexico State Archives in Santa
Fe, where she learned techniques on how to repair torn pages,
custom make boxes, encapsulate historical documents, and related
topics.
When you are in need of photographs, you can access the
C-Quest Database or call Shirley at 844-7404 for particular
photographs in the Corporate Archives Still Photo Collection.
